This historic pub is regarded as one of the best in the Peak District. Situated just off the Monsal Trail, the pub is surrounded by some of the most striking scenery the Peaks have to offer. Settle down by the open fires or linger outside on sunny days to enjoy real ales and tasty food locally sourced by the landlord. Muddy boots, kids and dogs are all welcome.
The Packhorse is ideally located for those staying in the lovely holiday cottages on our doorstep. Select the 'Places to stay' button for more information. We are also a short drive from some best known attractions of the Peak District, so whether you've spent the morning fly fishing or touring Chatsworth House or Haddon Hall, you will have no trouble making it to the Packhorse in time for lunch.
As most people in Derbyshire can't walk 50 feet without encountering a cow, a pig, or a sheep, we didn't think it made a lot of sense to get them from anywhere else. We also serve venison from Holme Farmed Venison and local game from R.G. Morris
All the beef is reared two fields away and comes from Critchlows Farm Shop in Bakewell, the cheeses from the Cheese Factor and the breads from the Original Bakewell Pudding Shop.
Serving a wide range of cask ales and lagers, the Packhorse Inn is a fantastic place to come for a good honest pint. Black Sheep is a regular feature, and local beers include cask ales from the Thornbridge Brewery in Bakewell.
We always have three Thornbridge beers on including the award winning Jaipur pale ale and a fourth guest beer. We also have a sixth hand pull which features regularly changing still ciders.
We can now offer 4 pint flagons and individual pints for takeaway.
The wine list is concise but effective, with the usual suspects all provided by Hattersley Wines in Bakewell. A full range of spirits is also available as are tea and coffee.
We are regulars in the Good Beer Guide, so pop in for a pint and try them for yourself!
The ever popular Thursday night quiz provides participants with giggles, winners with wine, and charities with funds. For the price of £1, comedy quizmaster Gawney will amaze you with how little you know, and then make up for it with the ‘top dollar items' offered as prizes for the bonus picture round. Quiz starts at 8:45pm.
We have raised over £5000 for numerous local charities.
